SHO Newt Quick Start Guide and Troubleshooting
If you’re having any issues with your SHO Newt lid, don’t worry as in most cases this is caused by a simple alignment or assembly step.
Please watch our Quick Start Guide and troubleshooting video here: https://youtube.com/shorts/7hFrTXN0XqU?si=UIaFBQNlR4cc0u_v
Most common issues (and how to fix them)
1. Leakages
The most common cause of leaking is the straw lid lower not being fully tightened into place.
When assembled correctly, you should feel a slight resistance or hear a small “click” as the parts pass the internal locking bump. This confirms the lid is fully secured.
If this step is missed, the lid may not seal correctly and can leak.
Please check:
- The seal is sitting flat in its groove
- The gasket is fully pressed into place all the way around
- The straw lid lower is fully tightened until it passes the locking point (you should feel resistance/click)
- The spout is fully closed when not in use
2. Lid not closing properly / feels misaligned
This usually happens when the lid sections are not aligned correctly during assembly.
Please ensure:
- The notches on the lid upper and inner section are correctly lined up
- The spout is sitting flush before tightening
- The lid is not forced past resistance incorrectly (it should align naturally)
If it feels wrong, fully disassemble and reassemble carefully from the start.
3. Spout is stiff or not opening smoothly
This is normally caused by incorrect alignment of the spout hinges.
Please check:
- The spout hinges are seated correctly in the inner lid notches
- No parts are pinched or misaligned during assembly
- The lid has been assembled in the correct order
Once correctly fitted, the spout should open and close smoothly.
4. Straw coming loose or not working properly
This is usually due to the straw not being fully inserted into the gasket connection point.
Please ensure:
- The stainless steel straw is pushed firmly into place
- It is fully seated within the gasket fitting
- There is no visible gap between the straw and lid base
5. Lid feels loose after assembly
If the lid feels loose, it is usually because the straw lid lower has not been fully tightened past the locking point.
You should feel a slight resistance or “click” as it passes the internal bump that secures everything in place.
If this step is missed, the lid will not fully seal.
Please:
- Reopen the lid
- Realign all notches carefully
- Screw the lower section in again until fully secure
- Screw the lower section in again until you feel the locking resistance/click
Before contacting us
We recommend fully disassembling and reassembling the lid once, carefully following the video guide above, as this resolves the majority of issues.
